Vacation policies vary. This tool keeps the math visible so you can compare the estimate with your employer’s actual policy or payroll records.
Time earned so far
Accrued plans are estimated evenly through the active portion of the vacation year. Front-loaded plans make the applicable entitlement available at the effective start.
Available balance
Opening carryover is added, then vacation already used or booked is subtracted. A future projection can also subtract additional planned vacation.
Mid-year starts
When proration is enabled, the first-year entitlement is reduced according to the employee’s active days in the selected vacation year.

Useful distinctions before you trust the number.
Is vacation accrual the same as vacation pay?
No. This calculator estimates a time-off balance from a policy expressed in days or hours. Vacation pay can follow wage-based statutory or contractual rules and should be calculated from the applicable authoritative source.
Why can payroll show a slightly different balance?
Payroll systems may post accrual on specific pay dates, apply rounding, waiting periods, caps or other policy rules. This calculator uses equal time-based accrual for projections, so timing can differ slightly.
Can I calculate vacation in hours?
Yes. Choose Hours and enter the annual entitlement, carryover and usage in hours. All outputs will stay in hours.
What if our vacation year is not January to December?
Choose the actual vacation-year start date. The calculator uses the following 12-month policy year for the estimate.
Does this tell me the legal minimum for my province?
No. The tool intentionally does not guess statutory entitlement. Employment standards, contracts, collective agreements and workplace policies can differ. Use the applicable official guidance for legal minimums.
